Celebrating Amber

Today, my baby girl turned 4 years old.

She was not happy that Mommy & Daddy were both going to be working today, so I decided to bring her to work with me. (Not recommended if you intend on ~~keeping your sanity~~ getting any work done)

Since we are not celebrating Amber’s Birthday until Sunday, we were not planning on getting her a cake for today. However, when I found this cake at Waly World, I couldn’t resist.

My “baby” is growing up too quickly. sigh.

Bad News, Sad News..... What a crappy weekend.

Well, it is the second week in a row that I forgot to add my picture to the Flickr group 52 1/2 weeks of 2009. So, I quit. I didn’t forget to take the picture, just to upload it. Sunday (the deadline to upload the photos) is just not a good internet day for me. It is the only day that my whole family is at home and I often forget to turn the computer on. The theme for this week was a self portrait. Since I did take it, I will share it with you.

I managed to stub my toe on Saturday. Amber left her Barbie Jeep out in the driveway and I was going to put it away so that it didn’t get stolen. Here I am bent over, trying to push it into the driveway when I get the bright idea to press the “gas” pedal with my hand so that it will be “easier” to manuver. That’s when the Jeep takes off at 5 MPH dragging me and my poor toe down the driveway. It hurts. Bad. The whole thing is black and blue and looks quite gross. I tried to take a pic to share with you, but you can barely see the bruising.

My husband is a sub-contractor who has been working with Circuit City for 10 years doing home theatre installations. Circuit City announced on Jan. 16 that they are going out of business. We were told not to worry because Firedog (the installation entity for CC) would be starting a new contract with Wal-Mart, now we have found out that this is not true. Firedog will be going out of business as well. Where does this leave us you ask? SCREWED. Big time. What to do, what to do?

Unfortunately, I forgot to upload it yesterday, so it did not get entered for the week. :( Story of my life., We won’t even begin to mention how horribly awful I have been in keeping up with NaBloPoMo. Oh well, at least 1 month this year I WILL post everyday.

Yes, that’s right. The Florida Gators are the 2009 National Champions. Can life get any better than that? Now, I do have to admit that I did not watch the whole game. I wanted to, believe me, I REALLY wanted to. I wanted to watch the Gators win and then call my Dad and rub it in. However, as soon as I hit the bed, (beginning of 3rd quarter) I was out. I jumped out of bed in a panic (at 2am) this morning wondering if we won, then woke Keith because I guess my half-asleep happy dance was a little loud (Sorry honey!) I cannot wait to leave work and give my good old Daddy a call.

Sasha was even sporting her Gator-Gear for the big game!

I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard that Tupac had died. It was September 13, 1996 and I was in the truck of my ex boyfriends father waiting for him to come out of a friends house. Of course, I had heard that he was shot 6 days earlier, but I assumed that this would be like the last time. He would recover, and come back with another hit cd. Rap music was not something that I listened to a lot of, I was more of a pop music fan. But, there was something about him that immediately turned me into a fan the first time I heard his music. I cried like ababy.

This is my first post for the Flickr group 52 1/2 weeks of 2009. I decided to go with this group since I am already participating in the SPT challenge from Lelly. I figured, how many photos of me could you actually want to see?

The “theme” of the week was the word START.

We have made a new START buying our first home together. We STARTed Amber’s room first, and now all it needs is some paint.

New Years bust.

We decided for New Years that we didn’t want to go out and that we would have a few people over instead. Some people told us right off the bat that they wouldn’t be able to make it. (We live out in the middle of nowhere) But there were some people ~~that suggested we have the party at our house~~ that said they were definitely coming and didn’t show up. Well, Steven, Keith’s brother showed up, but that was it. Needless to say, that didn’t put me in the best of moods and I took a Xanax and had a few drinks. We played a couple of games of darts. I lost them all. Keith and Steven decided that they were going to “fix” our flatscreen (it doesn’t turn on), and I laid on the couch. While they were “fixing” the tv, we missed New Years. Keith went “oh no, it’s 12:13. I fell asleep and didn’t wake up until Steven had left. Right now I’m hoping that this doesn’t set the precedence for the rest of the year.

By the way, the tv still dosen’t work.

On another note, I signed up for NaBloPoMo again. If you are unfamiliar with NaBloPoMo, it’s where you agree to blog everyday for a month. I tried last month, and failed miserably, so I joined a group, Challenge for 2009, where the goal is to do 75%, or a total of 274 days for the entire year. I’m not promising anything, because I tend to start things and then lose interest. A year is a long time. The theme for this month is CHANGE. I’m hoping my luck changes. See above paragraph.

I have also joined two groups on Flickr and I am trying to decide which one I want to participate in. The first groups is 52 1/2 of 2009 and the goal is to upload one photo a week according to the theme. The second group is 52/52 Self Portraits For 2009 and the goal is to try to upload 52 pictures of you, but there are no “rules”.

Are any of you participating in either of these groups or something similar?

Reflecting on 2008

The year is coming to an end and now is the time to look back at the good and bad of the last year before starting anew in 2009. I cannot say that 2008 was the greatest year, but there were some good parts too…..

2008 started off with me having to find a job because the job that I had worked at for the past 5 years was given to a family member. («

Another big moment was sending Amber to daycare for the first time. With my last job I was able to work from home so this was a new to all of us. Amber had always been at home with me, and it was hard leaving her behind. Luckily, Amber jumped right into the swing of things (as did Mommy & Daddy) and loved going to “school”!

I was at my new job for about 2 weeks when I pulled up to the house and there was a man in the driveway. He was there to inform us that the house we were living in was going into foreclosure and that we had 2 weeks to get out. Now, we were supposed to be buying this house after our year lease was up. We had been paying an extra $300 a month towards a down payment. With 2 weeks to find a place, and no money for a down payment, things were not looking good. We managed to find a mobile home on 1 1/4 acres that was in the same school district.

We had a huge Memorial Day party at our house because our friend Corey was coming from out of town. Alcohol & dirtbikes don’t mix. Keith wrecked our son’s dirtbike and almost killed himself. Literally. He spent 3 days in the hospital with internal injuries. Luck was on his side and he has since recovered.

Andrew did very well in school this year, making the honor roll in every semester. Then he got caught skipping school….. What else is there to say about that?

We got a puppy - Jake(Catahoula bulldog/Boxer mix). Someone stole him. :(
We got a new puppy - Sasha. (Black Lab/Pitbull mix). She is sweet.

The best part of the year was in November when Keith and I bought our house. We have been trying to buy a house for 4 years, and it finally happened. Whoo-hoo. Go us!

On to next year…….

I have just found a neat little website called Ping.fm and I am playing with it to see what the features are and if this is something that I want to use. What is Ping.fm you ask? According to Wikepedia, Ping.fm is a free social networking and micro-blogging web service that enables users to post to multiple social networks simultaneously.

Making an update on Ping.fm pushes the update to a number of different social websites at once. This allows individuals using multiple social networks to update their status only once, without having to update it in all their social mediums individually. Ping.fm groups services into three categories – status updates, blogs, and micro-blogs – and updates can be sent to each group separately.

BTW - that is a picture of me in my monkey pj’s that my Sissy bought me for Christmas. Isn’t it adorable?

The topic for this weeks SPT is Peace. The first thing that came to my mind was camping. Well, we haven’t gone camping in a really long time, so I had to use an old picture. But here it is - I am definitely peacful when I am camping! Can’t wait for the weather to warm up so I can be at Peace again!

So, last night I was at my in-laws house talking to my father-in-law & brother-in-law. We were discussing the new Batman movie and then this:

FIL - What about the Green Hornet?

BIL - The only Green Hornet that I know of is from Spiderman

Me - Yeah that’s the only one I have heard of too.

FIL - No this guy wasn’t on Spiderman, he was a Detective on a TV show

BIL - (Looks at me) Well Dad, that must be before we were born, we grew up in the 1980’s

FIL - Well this was the 1960’s. Don’t you remember him?

BIL - No Dad, that was before my time (Laughs)

We had our Christmas party at work last Friday, and I had a great time! We had a gift exchange and our limit was $3. Do you know how hard it is to find a decent gift for $3? Needless to say, I think we all may have went a little over our budget, but it was well worth it!

Marie is really into frogs….I hunted on a great auction site and managed to get her a frog magnet & also a decoration for her tree.

Chris likes Alfred Hitchcock and I found these really cool address labels that I also got on the auction site listed above.

Now, the best gift that I bought was for Rachel who is a HUGE Snoopy fan. (Thank you auction Gods for allowing me to get this for so cheap!)

My favorite present that I received is this awesome gift from Marie:

She even kept the price tag on it so that we could see she spent under $3 (she got it for .99 - can you believe that?)

See the monkey stocking above Chris’ head? He sewed that on there for me because they were unable to find a monkey stocking. Isn’t that sweet!

Bricks & Gravy?

Saturday night, our niece and nephew slept over. We decided to make biscuits and gravy for breakfast. I made the gravy while Chelsea was making the biscuits. The first batch (made from scratch) didn’t rise and came out hard as bricks, so I got out the biscuit mix and Chelsea tried again. Unfortunately, the second batch came out the same way. So, instead of eating them, we made Christmas decorations with them.

Comfort is being with my man....
